Drew Bennett Beyond Yellowstone

Drew Bennett

Drew is the Whitney MacMillan Professor of Practice of Private Lands Stewardship in the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Wyoming. Drew's work focuses on strategies to balance agricultural production and the conservation of wildlife and other natural resources on private lands in the American West. He has previously worked with The Nature Conservancy on a cattle ranch in eastern Colorado and for the Mesa Land Trust in western Colorado.

Hilary Byerly Flint Beyond Yellowstone

Hilary Byerly Flint

Hilary is a senior research scientist at the University of Wyoming. She studies how people manage and value the natural environment—particularly public benefits, like biodiversity conservation and risk mitigation, from private lands. She is currently leading a multi-year project focused on incentivizing habitat conservation on private lands in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Hilary is based in Jackson, WY.

Hall Sawyer Beyond Yellowstone

Hall Sawyer

Hall is a Research Biologist and Project Manager based in WEST’s Laramie, Wyoming, office. Hall often works with agencies and industry to conduct studies and convey information in ways that improve management, mitigation, and planning efforts related to big game.

Jerod Merkle Beyond Yellowstone

Jerod Merkle

Jerod is an assistant professor and the Knobloch professor of migration ecology and conservation at University of Wyoming. Jerod’s research program is twofold. He and his team study the intricacies of the movement and migration of big game, and develop data products and tools to facilitate their conservation and management.

Corey Class

Corey is the Wildlife Management Coordinator of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department based in Cody, Wyoming. He came to Wyoming from Idaho, where he worked as regional wildlife biologist and Mule Deer Initiative coordinator for Idaho Fish and Game. A long-time hunter and outdoorsman, Corey previously served as staff biologist and operations manager for the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association.

Tony Mong Beyond Yellowstone

Tony Mong

Tony is the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s wildlife biologist in Cody, Wyoming. Much of his work focused on managing and monitoring big game and other wildlife across the region. Tony grew up hunting, fishing, and studying wildlife in Missouri before moving to Wyoming in 2010.

Arthur Middleton Beyond Yellowstone

Arthur Middleton

Arthur is an associate professor in the Department of Science, Policy, and Management at the University of California, Berkeley and also acts as the Senior Advisor on Wildlife Conservation for the US Department of Agriculture. He leads a variety of interdisciplinary research efforts on wide-ranging wildlife and large-landscape conservation, and works actively to ensure positive outcomes of this work for communities.

Tucker Russell, tribal liaison

Tucker Russell

Tucker serves as the Tribal Liaison for the Beyond Yellowstone Living Lab, where he focuses on conservation challenges within the Wind River Indian Reservation and the broader Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. His previous research focused on movement and disease ecology in the Wind River Basin. In his free time, Tucker enjoys exploring the outdoors by hunting, fishing, mountain biking, and trail running.

Kristin Barker Beyond Yellowstone

Kristin Barker

Kristin is Beyond Yellowstone’s research director. While supporting all the lab’s work, her personal research primarily focuses on migration ecology, human influences on wildlife behavior, and predator-prey dynamics. She’s spent most of the last two decades living and working in the Rocky Mountains, hiking, backpacking, biking, skiing, paddling, and hunting.

We work with a growing number of partners to ensure our research is grounded in the needs of the local community.
